Anca Gherle
Country Director, Romania
Anca has more than 14 years of experience in legislative and policy making in the Romanian central administration, both at Government and Parliament level, as well as an extensive consulting career within the private sector. Her focus is on helping corporate clients across various industries navigate through the volatile Romanian political context and advising clients on all aspects of advocating within the Romanian administration.
Anca started her career as a political journalist while studying at the University of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences, before accepting a role within political communications and electoral strategy development. She then entered the national administrative arena, working at the Romanian Senate in the Commission of Labour, becoming an expert in drafting various policies, standards, procedures and laws. During the following years, Anca worked in the EU Parliament, before returning to Bucharest as an advisor to the Minister of Public Consultation and Social Dialogue.
Beyond coordinating general cooperation between the private sector, NGOs and Government, Anca drafted and launched, alongside the Ministry of Communication, the project “Accessibility guide - web pages of the institutions public from România”, that ensures the constitutional right of information and positively impacted around one million Romanian citizens.
Anca then moved to the private sector, becoming Regional Public Affairs Manager for Romania and CEE at FREE NOW (the European mobility platform owned by a Daimler-BMW joint-venture). Among her achievements within the transport mobility sector was drafting, advocating and successfully launching a new means of transportation that now provides legal income and freedom to work over 60,000 people. This legislation framework was used as a pillar and contributed to EU-level digitalisation regulations.
In 2021, Anca joined Aretera Public Affairs team as Country Director for Romania, establishing and leading a fast-growing team with substantial cross-sector experience.
Anca has post-graduate certifications from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Oxford Royale Academy and Harvard Business School, beyond her bachelor degree în Journalism and MA in Governance and Administration. As a certified AI expert, Anca is active in helping clients navigate the complex and dynamic policy landscape and to engage with the relevant stakeholders and decision-makers.
