Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama Unveils New Cabinet
New cabinet includes world's first AI-powered minister amid significant reshuffle

September 12, 2025
Four months after Albania’s parliamentary elections, Prime Minister Edi Rama has unveiled his fourth consecutive government. The new cabinet marks a substantial restructuring, with notable personnel changes and an historic first: the appointment of Diella, the world's first AI-powered government minister. Presented on 11th September, the new cabinet represents both continuity and change, with several ministers retained alongside new appointments.

The new cabinet features 17 ministers, with major shifts in key portfolios including interior affairs, foreign affairs, health and justice. Rama has restored the standalone Ministry of Environment while merging tourism, culture and sports under one portfolio, reflecting both European integration requirements and economic diversification priorities.

The formation of the new cabinet follow’s Rama’s commanding victory in the May parliamentary elections, where his Socialist Party secured over 52% of the vote and 83 seats in the 140-seat parliament. Rama presented a cabinet through which he intends to consolidate his dominant position and to pursue ambitious reforms.

Most importantly, these include measures to keep Albania on track for EU membership by the end of his term in 2029. In his speech at the Socialist Party Assembly on 11th September, Rama hinted at further possible changes, noting that there is a need to reduce the number of parliamentary seats to 101, though it is yet to be seen whether this reform would be introduced.
